Chapter Seven
Kelsey
I didnât sleep much with Caleb next to me. Megan had called me numerous times and had sent at least twenty text messages. My phone flickered like a disco ball in my dark room with all the commotion. The stupid buzzing of my phone woke me up, and when Iâd finally had enough, I carried it out of my bedroom so Caleb could rest. I caught a glimpse of myself in the hall mirror and nearly shrieked. Iâd forgotten to take my makeup off, and I looked like Heath Ledgerâs version of the Joker. I rolled my eyes and decided to call her back first. My cleanser was in my bathroom, and finding it would defeat my whole purpose of leaving quietly.
âStop calling me,â I told her as I entered the kitchen. âI donât care what you think you know. You donât know anything.â
âFine. You can be ignorant if you want. Mom said youâre in denial.â
âYou barge into my fucking house at six in the morning and act like some bitch on a high horse, and Iâm the one thatâs in the wrong? All because I donât want to date the fucking loser you set me up with? Is thatâs what this is really about, Megan? You wanted me to have a less attractive boyfriend than you. Just admit it. Byron is horrible compared to Rick. But Rick is a nobody compared to Caleb. Jason was Dadâs favorite, and Rick, well, he never quite hit it off, did he?â
The line went silent for a moment before she clicked off. I rolled my eyes. My sister and I always fought for our parentsâ attention, but Megan was over the top with this.
âWho is a nobody compared to me?â Caleb asked when he walked around the corner.
I sucked in a breath at how beautiful the man really was standing in the buff with sleepy eyes and a smirk. Weâd slept until the afternoon, and the sunlight outside casted a glow in the kitchen. His long muscular body was sculpted to perfection. My mouth watered simply looking at it. He was gorgeous.
âRick. Meganâs boyfriend.â I grabbed a pod from the tree next to my coffee machine and I loaded it in. âI think Megan set me up with that guy at the restaurant to make herself look better. Jason was better than Rick, but youâre a million times better than Jason.â
He scratched his stomach and yawned. âIâm not awake enough to have this conversation.â
I smiled. âYou like coffee?â
He nodded and walked toward me. He kissed my forehead and searched through the pods before selecting one. I wrapped my arms around him and laid my head against his chest while we waited for my coffee to brew.
âYou lied to me,â I said.
âAbout what?â He slipped his hand beneath my shirt and let it rest at my side.
âYou said I was gorgeous last night. Have you seen my face?â I pulled back and made a circling motion with my finger.
He grinned and rubbed his thumb beneath my eye.
